HIS FIRST STUNT
Rufus Lynx was adopted by the Charlotte Bobcats on November 1, 2003, in front of 5,000 fans at the Charlotte Coliseum. In his initial appearance, he rappelled down through mid air from high above the arena floor and landed safely down to christen his temporary new home and commence a new era of professional basketball in the Carolinas. After he met his new fans, he needed a name. Through voting on www.bobcatsbasketball.com the name Rufus Lynx was selected.

Rufus Lynx has been quite busy since being adopted by the Bobcats, appearing at Charlotte-based community functions and special arrangements, including various reading programs at local elementary schools. The Bobcats, in conjunction with the NBA, manage a local Read to Achieve program that incorporates a combination of special monthly reading "time-outs," book giveaways and special guest appearances by Bobcats coaches and front office staff members. The program runs year-round and is a shared community initiative that the Bobcats and NBA work collectively to promote. In fact, he helped celebrate Dr. Seuss' 100th birthday on March 2 by reading and delivering a cake to a group of young students.
HEY NOW, YOU’RE AN ALL-STAR
Making his mark early on the league, Rufus Lynx made his first cross-country trip to Los Angeles, California during the 2004 NBA All-Star Weekend in mid-February. Mascots from around the NBA participated in many activities throughout the four days, entertaining fans and giving the rest of the league a taste of what Bobcats fans will see all season. Rufus Lynx was a hit during the celebrity game as he climbed into the basket to deflect would-be shooting attempts.
