 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will be a great player in this league, and Brendan Haywood brings some stability to the Bobcats' frontline. Bismack Biyombo's development will be an important part of the upcoming season.

 Ramon Sessions and Ben Gordon provide some experience, and both certainly have something to prove after unsuccessful stints with their previous teams. But neither is a real difference maker.

 It's a long way from the league's worst defense to something respectable, but the additions of Kidd-Gilchrist and Haywood are a step in the right direction. The coaching change can't hurt either.

 When you're where the Bobcats are, putting together a decent starting lineup is hard enough. The bench will have Ben Gordon or Gerald Henderson for some instant offense, and that's about it.

 Mike Dunlap is a relative unknown, and he hasn't been given much to work with. Given the lack of talent on the roster, he must focus on the defensive end of the floor.

Summary
Winning less than 11 percent of their games last season, the Bobcats were the worst team in NBA history. So there's absolutely nowhere to go but up, but the return to relevance is going to be a very long road.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. And the Bobcats took the right step by selecting Kidd-Gilchrist with the No. 2 pick in the draft. While he's not an offensive star by any means, he's got the athleticism that can make an impact on both ends of the floor, as well as the character and drive to be a leader early in his career.
Still, only one move of significance is not going to get the Bobcats far up the ladder in the Eastern Conference. In fact, they may still be the worst team in the league.
What's important is that they don't act like it. And it's up to Dunlap to change the culture as he waits for more talent to work with.
